A collection of work by paper artist,
Peter Gentenaar, was recently displayed in the French church, Saint-Riquier as part of a classical musical festival. I feel as if I'm transcending to some other heavenly universe just looking at the images on my screen. Can you
imagine walking beneath these dynamic, ethereal structures in the flesh, with the sound of classical music filling your ears? Oh goodness. So profoundly beautiful.
What's more, the process to create these forms is equally as fascinating. Gentenaar developed his own paper to achieve that robust, textile-like quality he needed. He embeds the wet paper, lying flat, with a series of bamboo ribs. As the paper dries and shrinks, the differential movement between the paper and the bamboo creates body and form. Surely, this man is some sort of genius.
