hump day happy place: the brain

This filmmaker's studio in Seattle designed by Olson Kundig Architects is based on the garage typology. The designers considered the garage as a thinking laboratory, where ideas are born, workshopped and built upon.

I hate to put a formula on good design but this studio has all the key ingredients for my dream studio space; a double height volume, floor to ceiling steel windows, full height bookshelves and why not throw in a grand piano and some creeping ivy? It's a retreat space that invites making and creating, allowing plenty of breathing room for the mind. I tell you what, I want in. Real bad.
